Save the Child Initiative (STCI) continued the implementation of STEER Project from across the 19 communities of Illela LGA and an additional LGA of Wamakko comprises of 8 communities with the goal to improve the livelihood and wellbeing of Caregivers and Vulnerable Children in Illela and Wamakko .

During the FY17, Save the Child Initiative (STCI) implemented the following activities in Illela and Wamakko Local Government Area;

  • Monthly review and coordination meetings with CCMWs from across the 19 project communities of Illela and 8 project communities in Wamakko
  • Monthly monitoring and supervision of CCMWs from across the 19 project communities of Illela and 8 project communities in Wamakko LGA
  • Monthly kids club activities from across the 19 project communities of Illela and 8 project communities in Wamakko LGA
  • Food demonstration from across the 19 project communities of Illela and 8 project communities in Wamakko LGA
  • 36 Community Case Management Workers (CCMWs) in Illela and  27 Community Case Management Workers (CCMWs) in Wamakko trained on Case Management and Project Implementation
  • Community Mobilization on HIV testing and Counseling
  • Facilitate the provision of Birth Certificate to Vulnerable Children from across the 19 project communities of Illela and 8 project communities in Wamakko.
  • Mentoring and supervisory visits to the community structures; VSLA,CQIT,CPC and Caregivers Forum from across the 19 project communities of Illela
  • Trained 250 Caregivers from across the 19 project communities of Illela and 400 caregivers from across the 8 project communities on Micro-Enterprise Fundamentals (MEF)
  • Conducted Step-down training on Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH) and Life Skills for 36 CCMWs in Illela and 27 CCMWs in Wamakko
  • Facilitate Cash Disbursement in designated cash points for selected Caregivers
  • Longitudinal study (survey) on cash transfer for selected Caregivers from across the 19 project communities of Illela LGA
  • Advocacy visit to Duty bearers and Gatekeepers from across the 8 project communities of Wamakko LGA.
  • Verification of households from across the 8 project communities of Wamakko LGA
  • Formation of Child Protection Committees across the 8 Project Communities of Wamakko LGA
  • Training of Caregivers on Innovative Practices in Agriculture from across the 8 Project Communities of Wamakko LGA
  • Training of 960 Caregivers on Nutrition from across the 8 Project communities of Wamakko LGA
  • Facilitate the formation of Village Savings and Loan Association across the 8 Project Communities of Wamakko LGA

The successful implementation of the project during FY17 from across Year 1 and 2 project communities of Illela LGA consist of 19 communities; (Damba Dikko, Illela, Araba, Rugumawa Gatti, Ambarura, Tozai, Garu1, Gidan Katta/Gaidaw, Kalmalo, Darna Kiliya/Sabon gari ,Damba Tarke, Bakin Dutse, Rugumawa Jao, Basanta, Muwadata, Amarawa, Garu2, Gidan Hamma and Gidan Tudu) and Wamakko LGA consist of 8 communities (Gidan Salanke, Kassarawa, Gumbi, Wajeke, Kauran Kimba, Kammata, Kalambaina and Barkeji) led to a three month extention to continue the implementation of the STEER project in Illela LGA alone.

The agreement signed by STCI to work as a sub-grantee with Save the Children International (SCI) for implementation of FY17 STEER Project ended on the 31st of December, 2017.
